Sat Bir Singh Khalsa, Ph.D.

Yoga for Mental Health and Wellbeing: The Science and Research

Sat Bir Singh Khalsa, Ph.D. is the Director of Yoga Research for the Yoga Alliance and the Kundalini Research Institute, a Research Associate at the Benson Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine, a Research Affiliate at the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He has conducted research on yoga and yoga therapy since 2001 and has been a practitioner/instructor of Kundalini Yoga since 1973. His research has evaluated yoga for insomnia, chronic stress, and anxiety-related disorders, and in workplace and public school settings. He works with the International Association of Yoga Therapists promoting yoga research as scientific director for the annual Symposium on Yoga Research and as editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Yoga Therapy. He is medical editor of the Harvard Medical School Special Report Introduction to Yoga, and chief editor of the medical textbook The Principles and Practice of Yoga in Health Care.

Suzanne Faith Slocum-Gori, Ph.D.

Yoga for Optimal Health: A Holistic Model for Physical and Mental Well-Being

Suzanne Faith Slocum-Gori, Ph.D. is a longstanding meditation and hatha yoga teacher, trainer and therapist. She conducts international teacher trainings and certifies teachers within Europe and North America. Suzanne is Founder of Bindu Institute for Learning and Co-Founder of One Yoga in Vancouver, Canada. She holds a Doctorate within Educational Research, Measurement and Evaluation and a Masters in Educational Psychology. She conducted postdoctoral studies within mental health and addictions at University of California’s Neuropsychiatric Institute. She also conducted postdoctoral research within cancer survivorship with BC Cancer Agency and UBC’s School of Population and Public Health. Suzanne received federal funding from Canada’s Ministry of Health to conduct research on yoga for cancer. Suzanne supports several licensing-and-standards organizations (Yoga Professionals, Yoga Alliance, Anusara) with curriculum development and assessment of yoga and meditation educational programming. She is a Somatic-Experiencing Therapist, conducts retreats, immersions and mentorship programs and participates in health conferences across the globe. She is Founder of the Sara Foundation, a charity organization aimed at yoga for cancer prevention and management. Suzanne lives in Mallorca, Spain with her husband and three children.
